Introduction: Situatedness and Place
2018
Over the last two or three decades, the spatio-temporal contingency of human life has become an important topic of research in a broad range of different disciplines including the social sciences, the cultural sciences, the cognitive sciences, and philosophy. Significantly, however, this research topic is referred to in quite different ways: While some researchers refer to it in terms of the “situatedness” of human experience and action, others refer to it in terms of “place”, emphasizing the “power of place” and advocating a “topological” or “topographical turn” in the context of a larger “spatial turn”. Telpas semantika Teodora Fontānes romānā „Efija Brīsta”
2020
Telpa – viena no svarīgākajām kategorijām cilvēka pasaules uztverē. Ikdienišķā telpas definīcija nav problemātiska, atšķirībā no tās teorētiskās eksplikācijas jeb paskaidrojuma.
Dots, Lines, Areas and Words: Mapping Literature and Narration (With some Remarks on Kate Chopin’s “The Awakening”)
2009
The so-called spatial turn of the humanities has led to an increasing interest in mapmaking. Looking at various trends in map-making the paper evaluates possible links and cooperation between cartography and literary studies. Differentiating between two central questions - which features of literature may be considered as spatial and in what way literature as a social practice could become spatially relevant – the paper argues that maps of literature should be based on specific features that constitute a literary text as opposed to other forms of art and discourse. Claiming that maps of literature should provide more than a visualisation of structure or an illustration of certain forms or c…
Memoria, spazio, identità. Una premessa
2023
Memory, which has always been a subject of research and reflection, entered by right with Émile Durkheim and Marcel Mauss into the space of 'total social facts', i.e. the group of those aspects of human behaviour that support the ideological structure of social universes and regulate the capacity to perform a given action, regardless of intentionality, of both individuals and groups. What emerges is the problematic nature of the very nature of memory and its relationship to history and historians.
